1960 Ferrari 250 SWB

Definitely, there is no question about it: Ferrari is easily one of the most-renowned car manufacturers in the world today—that is, if it isn’t the most renowned.-The emblem of the prancing stallion is a much desired one; so much so that cars made by the company-but did not have the emblem weren’t very successful in the market (such as a number of the-Dino cars made by Ferrari). 

However, Ferrari is more than just reputation. The company definitely has the good-to back the prestige the name has. By the 1950s and the 1960s, Ferrari has already created a number-of iconic and breathtaking sports cars. There is one that car many experts say paved the way of the-success of Ferrari during that decade.

That car is no other than the 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB.

Now, the Ferrari 250 is a car line with several updates and versions. In fact, the-250 SWB wasn’t the original 250, needless to say. The very first Ferrari 250 was built during-1953. The line survived until the mid 1960s, when it was replaced by Ferrari 275 and 330. The 250-line is deemed to be the most successful ones from the company during that time. Therefore, it is-not an exaggeration to say that it was an achievement, a sign that Ferrari has indeed made it in the-very core of the automobile industry.

The Ferrari 250 SWB was first released in 1959 at the Paris Auto Show. It was-designed by the Pininfarina. The design company went far as to saying that this particular design-was among their “quantum leaps” for the Italian car manufacturer. And the very design of-the car made it apparent; it was a fastback or a berlinetta, a design which Pininfarina was-experimenting with during the time. 

Critics and buyers said that the car’s design was amazingly balanced, a-perfect combination of design innovation and Ferrari’s signature look. The 250 SWB (or short-wheelbase) was shorter than the earlier 250s in order to improve its handling. It is a two-seat coupe and it is simply gorgeous.

At the race track, it was known as the 250 GT Berlinetta SWB. It had a great run in-the race tracks during its day. In fact, several decades after it was released, the 250 SWB was-named one of the top sports cars of its decade (the 60s) and even one of the best Ferraris ever-built. Needless to say, that is a great honor considering the lineage of the-company. 

The Ferrari 250 SWB also marked a whole new era for the company. After the 250 SWB,-their sports cars and competition cars were made differently. The successors of the 250 line made-that clear: the 275 was made for competition while the 330 was made as a street car. Nonetheless,-the beauty and the legacy of the 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB cannot be denied. As one of the best Ferraris-ever, 250 SWB indeed made the ultimate success of Ferrari possible.
