1968 Porsche 909 Bergspyder

A Car Show Classic with a Stained Past

CarshowClassic.com tells the story.

During the 1960s, Porsche dominated the professional racing scene. The likes of 907 and 910 became instant car show classics even before they ended their reign on the tracks. However, Ferdinand Piech (grandson of company founder Ferdinand Porsche) wanted to take the achievements of the 910 to greater heights. This ambition turned into the 1968 Porsche 909 Bergspyder, a car show classic that was once envisioned to be the king of the road like the Porsche car models before it. Unfortunately, technical problems and a dark spot in its not so sterling history stopped the 909’s journey towards automobile history.
