1960 Aston Martin DB4 GT

There were a number of things about this car that pleased automobile fans. -Having four wheel disc brakes was something that was a little exceptional for the time.  The-frame was a tube frame which offered strength and light weight for improved handling. -Independent front suspension and rack and pinion steering and were also nice options for the-time.

From its inception in 1958, the addition of bigger and better brakes came-early.  Stylistic additions like separate tail lights were added on the third generation. -There were a number of different additions made to the fourth generation, most of which had to do-with the style of the car.  One of the most noticeable changes in this generation was the-change in the front grill.  

When the fifth generation rolled around in 1962, one of the things that Aston-Martin did was to make the car larger.  It grew by 3 1/2 inches in length and this accommodated-greater trunk space and more rear passenger room.  The interior was improved as well with-numerous additional touches like a higher quality gauge panel.  The height of the automobile-was also increased, but to ensure that the car did not become any taller on the road, the wheels-were made smaller.  Whether or not this was an improvement to the look of the car depended on-an individual’s opinion.

The engine was a dual overhead cam 3.7 liter offering in a straight six cylinder-configuration.  Performance was decent, if not stunning.  The 1960 Aston Martin DB4 took-6.4 seconds to go from 0 to 60, which was faster than most cars at the time.  The top speed was-almost 152 miles an hour, which was fairly good for the time.

The last of its generation, the 1963 Aston Martin DB4 was the predecessor to the-eventual DB5.  It also went on to have huge success, and it was featured in the James Bond-movie Goldfinger.  The DB4 Series 5 Vantage GT would provide a very smooth transition to the-Aston Martin DB5.
