1966 Austin Healey MK III A

Austin Healey was a car manufacturer that did not last for long time, but during-its short life it produced some of the most iconic automobiles of its time.  The 1966 Austin-Healey MK III A was an example of the Austin Healey 3000 series and it was one of the last great-cars that were made by this company.  They finally closed their doors in 1967, and it is-unfortunate that more of these great cars were not produced.

Most of the automobiles that were produced by Austin Healey were smaller cars, and-this was the largest of all of their offerings.  It had a six cylinder engine that would-produce 150 horsepower and this provided a smooth and powerful ride.  A number of improvements-were made to the drive train including a better muffler system, a new cam shaft and a pair of-carburetors that would ensure the engine had enough fuel to power the vehicle along.  For-improved handling, power assisted brakes were also added to this model.  The front brakes were-disc brakes for additional stopping power.

Something that separated this car from some of its competitors was the further-refinements available.  The1966 Austin Healey MK III A had options like electric windows, a-walnut veneer dashboard and the available option list even included things like leather seats. -It was still a true sports car but it offered a little bit more comfort than some of its-predecessors.  By this time, it had undergone refinements like the addition of a curved-windscreen and the ground clearance was increased.

This two door roadster was a little heavier than some of its racing neighbours, but-the additional horsepower made up for it.  The total weight of the car was about 2500 pounds,-depending on the option packages that the buyer chose.  Even with the larger weight, the1966-Austin Healey MK III A car would top out at over 128 miles per hour and would do so without a lot of-noise and complaints from the engine.  Like many of the sports cars of the era, power was-delivered through a four speed gearbox to the rear wheels.

Many beautiful cars were produced by Austin Healey, and this was one of the most-iconic and loved models of all.  A well preserved 1966 Austin Healey MK III A would fetch quite-a bit of money at an auction today and the right specimen would likely draw about $100,000. -Quite a few of them were produced, about 70,000 in total for the entire product line-up of 100s and 3000s.  There are not many of them still available today, so it has increased-the value of the remaining cars that are still in good shape.
