The Car of the Century!
Do you want to see a classic car that was considered to be the car of the century during the 1950s?
The 1955
....
Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing is a peculiar creation from a peculiar time because of its very unusual specifications and design. There’s the weight of the car (as signified on its name; SL means super light). Mercedes Benz used advanced technology to lower the weight of the car to complement the powerful engine. The weight of the car is one of the reasons why the Mercedes Benz 300 was successful in the racing circuit in its time. At 270 km/h per, it was one of the fastest cars post World War II.
And, of course, there’s the gullwing type door of this particular door. Today, the gullwing door isn’t exactly something you’d call modern. But during the 1950s, it’s an unusual feature. The overall design of the car added to the futuristic feel of the 1955 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing.
But what’s really astonishing is how the car incorporated the futuristic look at a time when the future was uncertain (because of the effects of the Second World War). Due to all of these reasons, a classic car indeed deserves the title of “Car of the Century.”
