Volvo P1800 - The Saint
Every television and movie spy or adventurer needs a cool sports car. James Bond had the Aston Martin DB5. In fact, the ....
And Simon Templars sports car: the undeniable classic car, the 1967 Volvo P1800.
The 1967 Volvo P1800 wasnt actually the first car Templar used in the show. It was the 1961 P1800. The show started in 1962, and the shows producers were looking for an iconic-looking sports car that can serve as a signature for the character. The choices were the already popular Jaguar E-Type and the newly released Volvo P1800.
Thinking that the now classic car model didnt need any more press, Jaguar declined the offer by the show to be their signature car. Of course, Volvo grabbed the opportunity. Jaguar later on regretted their decision.
The 1967 Volvo P1800 was actually the third P1800 model to be shown on The Saint, and it was used up until the very end of the series in 1969 (the shows 1962-1967 run was already impressed). Because of this exposure, the 1967 Volvo P1800 remains to be one of the most well loved classic car models from the 1960s.
