But what really made the Porsche 718 W-RS the “Grandmother” is its considerably long career on the race track. It was an official Porsche race car from 1961 to 1964, a considerably long period of time in the racing world - so much so that it made the 718 W-RS earn the “grandmother” nickname. The model did exceptionally well in the Targa Florio and the 12 Hours of Sebring, both well known for being tough endurance races.
