Ferrari
The King of Ferraris
Ferrari was one of the more successful car manufacturers during the 1960s. But what classic car helped the company reach the top ....
Without a doubt, it is the 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB, the company’s earlier sports car successes and one of the classic car models of Ferrari that spawned numerous reiterations and redesigns.
The 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB is the first short chassis made by the company. SWB means short wheel base (at 94.5 inches), as supposed to the long wheel base (at 102.4 inches), although basically the two do have some very distinct similarities. Both classic car models have the now iconic V12 engine. Surprisingly, this engine isn’t at all as powerful as the other engines. But what made the real difference is its weight. It weighs several hundred pounds less than other engines, giving it an extremely impressive output.
This engine, as well as the design of the 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB, really made the 250 line of Ferrari popular and successful on the race track.
Ferrari redesigned the 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB to create racing cars, such as the successful Ferrari 250 Le Mans and the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa (considered to be one of the more successful classic car models of Ferrari when it comes to racing history).
